crazy peopleJust because we consider some to be crazy people, that doesn't always mean they are. We could simply be labeling certain individuals as a crazy people because their behavior deviates from the norms that we are used to. I come from a city in the north of England called Newcastle. Since it's quite close to Scotland, it never gets very warm there. One Christmas, my husband and I went out on the town for drinks with an old friend of mine and her husband. My American husband couldn't believe his eyes when he saw people barhopping with no coats on in the middle of winter. He thought Newcastle was a city of crazy people. Looking at it from his perspective, it's easy to see why he though this. Wandering around outside with no coat in the middle of winter is insane. It's a sure way of catching a severe cold. However, people in Newcastle think those that wear coats when they go drinking are crazy people. For some unknown reason, braving the elements in next to nothing is a bizarre and irrational tradition in my hometown. It's the equivalent to Scottish men wearing no underpants under their kilts to prove they're tough. So, the next time you're tempted to label others as crazy people because they do seemingly irrational things that you don't understand, ask yourself if you aren't just being narrow-minded.
