
Don't know if members of your family tree were involved in the news of their day? Discover in your family search if they were in politics, the Civil War, a horse thief? Hopefully not on the last item, but before the days of television and the internet, newspapers and mail was how official news traveled. Now you can have access to the archives of many different newspapersand you might find a member of your family tree and another piece of your family history.
Google just launched Google News Archive Search. This service can be used to search for terms, names, places or whatever. The results are organized by date. If you are looking for information for your family tree from the past 10, 80, 100 years, just click on the range of dates you are looking for. The archives go well into the past, even into the 1700s. The cost depends on the newspaper you are researching. It could be pay per view or a subscription price.
Try some different searches for your family tree information. Try first and last name (of course), first and last name and state and state or city and navigate to the era when your relative was living.
