I Find People Most Unusual

I mean that in a good way. The unusual things that people say and do in their normal and abnormal interactions with each other never cease to amaze me. The following email from a friend crossed my desk a few days ago and I’m not sure if it falls under the heading of weird people, funny people or just plain crazy people. It seems to me that it is the combination of all three that makes the whole story work. It definitely is a candidate for a priceless award. Even Jay Leno mentioned this on his show one night.

Here is the happy young couple shortly after their vows. They don’t look like weird people or even crazy people at this point, but you must hang on a little longer to get to the breakdown of reality that took and takes place.

It was at the wedding reception that things began to get a little weird people. The guests had their food and drink and all were in a most mellow mood. The requisite funny people in the crowd were of course joking about the honeymoon trip to Maui and wondering if the two of them would ever see the sun or would they just sequester themselves in their room for 2 weeks.

It was at this point of the festivities that the groom decided to stand up and give a little speech. He thanked the bride’s and his families for being there at this most special moment in their young lives. He thanked all their friends for being there to support them on the start of their new journey in life. He especially thanked his new father-in-law for his lavish expenditures at the wedding and reception. He greatly appreciated everyone’s efforts.

It was at this point that he told everyone that he had a special gift he wanted to give to them just from him. They were taped to the bottom of everyone’s chair and they could remove them from the chair and open them now. Things were about to get crazy people.

Inside of each envelope was an 8x10 glossy of his new bride in a most compromising position with his supposed best man. From the looks of things, she was not helping him find a lost contact lens. Besides, normally one stays clothed for that. The groom has been suspicious about the two of them for a while and so he had them followed by a private detective who was able to take the fine pictures.

After standing there just absorbing the stunned silence of the gathered friends and family, the groom turned to his former best man and essentially asked him to perform an impossible act on himself. He then looked at his new bride and suggested she also perform the same impossible act.

The weird and crazy people award must go to the bride and the best man for starting an affair with each other prior to the wedding. That’s also kind of stupid, but we aren’t really taking about stupid people here. The crazy and funny people award must go to the groom. Most people would have called the wedding off, but he went through with it as if nothing was wrong. That’s the sign of a crazy person with a very, very outside sense of humor.

The award for the funny person was in how he dealt with the whole affair at the end by producing the pictures. That qualifies for the priceless award in my book. There are some things that money can’t buy, for everything else, there’s MasterCard.
