This is stupid stuff!  America is sitting on top of a massive 200 billion barrel Oil Field that could make America Energy Independent. The Bakken Formation that covers North Dakota and portions of South Dakota and Montana could boost America's Oil reserves an incredible 10 times! We don't need OPEC oil!

It is believed that there is 175 to 500 million barrels of recoverable oil held in this 200,000 square mile reserve originally discovered in 1951 according to a U.S. Geological Survey report which will be released in the next 30 days. An initial study was done back in 1999 when oil was $10 per barrel and it would have cost an estimated $20-$40 to drill for it with "old" horizontal drilling techniques.  Oil is now $120 per barrel and there is "new" horizontal drilling technology, which would make it more economical to produce.

It all started in 2007 when EOG Resources of Texas drilled a single well in Parshal N.D. It is expected to yield 700,000 barrels.  This started a frenzy. Marathon Oil is investing $1.5 billion and drilling 300 new wells in what is expected to be the largest oil discovery since oil was discovered in Saudia Arabia in 1938.

The US is importing over 14 million barrels of oil per day putting $340 billion dollars in the pockets of unfriendly regimes and building palaces in Dubai. If 200 billion barrel are recovered in this new area at $90 a barrel it would put $18 trillion dollars in the US economy and would make giant strides in stabilizing the American economy and cut the price of oil.  Let's end this stupid stuff and use our own resources!
