I can't say that iI totally understand why the Bush administration does certain things. One of those things is open borders, allowing Mexican truckers access to U.S. highways.  Besides not being trained as well as U.S. truckers, questionable maintenance of trucks, is this big issue of open borders.  Why, in this time of terrorism and an influx of illegal aliens entering the U.S., are there open borders for truckers? I just don't get it.

The Bush administration announced on Monday that it plans to extend for 2 more years the unpopular Mexican cross-border trucking project. It was due to expire on September 6.

100 Mexican trucking companies operate in the 25-mile zone along the U.S./Mexican border. The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, approved a bill last week stopping the Transportation Department from continuing with the pilot program. Chairman of this Committee is Representative James Oberstar, Democrat from Minnesota, who stated, “When Congress reconvenes in September, I intend to move our bill as quickly as possible, and make certain that the voice of Congress is heard loud and clear at the Department of Transportation, and that this program is finally shut down.”

This is one of the times that what is happening in Congess makes sense.
