meet people, weird people
Before I moved to the United States, I had no idea to what degree American society is divided. The United States, to my way of thinking, lacks an attitude of unity. There is a prevalent attitude of us vs. them. It could be republican vs. democrat, black vs. white, rich vs. poor, man vs. woman, straight vs. gay, U.S. citizen vs. illegal immigrant, Christian vs. Muslim or Middle East vs. West. Which ever parties the conflict is between, there is always disparity and a level of aggression which seems to be perpetrated by the media. It would seem that those in power in this country do not want people to join together so that they can communicate and begin to understand and accept each other.
When I meet people, I do not judge them by the ways in which they are different to me. Nationality, race, social status, sexual orientation, gender and religion are of little importance to me when I meet people. I am more interested in who a person is than what they are. I judge people by their personality. All groups have their good people, bad people, weird people, funny people and even crazy people. I think people who alienate themselves from others because they happen to be different miss out on so much because their hearts and minds are closed
